PREVENTED. LEYNA: A USC STUDENT AND HIS HOCKEY FAN ARE SHOWING US WHAT IT MEANS TO WIN IN LIFE. JEFF: THEY TAKE US TO AN L.A. KINGS GAME TO SHOW US HOW THIS STUDENT IS OVERCOMING AND GIVING BACK. Reporter: THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF. FOR USC SOPHOMORE, HE’S A PROUD INTERN FOR THE L.A. KINGS EVEN THOUGH HE SECRETLY IS ROOTING FOR HIS HOMETOWN TEAM, THE MINNESOTA WILD HOCKEY HAS BEEN HIS PASSION SINCE HE WAS THREE YEARS OLD. IT’S A PART OF MY LIFE. IT’S A FAMILY AND I’VE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO STAY IN THE GAME. Reporter: STAYING IN THE GAME FOR HIM ISN’T WHAT HE ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. IN 2011 HE SUFFERED A SEVERE SPINAL CORD INJURY DURING A HOCKEY GAME IN MINNESOTA. HE COULDN’T MOVE MOST OF HIS BODY. TODAY HE IS STILL LITTLE WHEELCHAIR BUT HIS PROGRESS HAS BEEN TREMENDOUS. NOT JUST HIS OWN PROGRESS. THEY STARTED A FOUNDATION TO HELP THE LIVES OF OTHERS JUST LIKE HIM. WERE DOING THE RIGHT THING. WERE GIVING HOPE TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. IT SO HARD TO WATCH. YOU SEE A HEALTHY YOUNG KID LIKE THAT AND HE’S JUST TOTALLY INCAPACITATED. TO SEE HIM TODAY, IT’S SO AWESOME BECAUSE HE’S JUST SO MUCH IN HIS GROOVE. HIS DREAMS USED TO BE PLAYING IN THE NHL. HE IS NOW WORKING IN IT AS AN INTERN AND THAT IS JUST THE WARM-UP. AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN INJURED YOUR GOALS MAY BE REVISED BUT
