FOR YEARS, MINNEAPOLIS HASN’T BEEN MAKING THE MAP, AS FAR AS HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY. BACK IN THE ’50s, BEFORE ALL THESE THINGS CALLED SUBURBS, MINNEAPOLIS WAS THE HOT BED FOR HOCKEY. HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY HAS BEEN PLAYED FOR MORE THAN 100 YEARS, AND THEY INDUCTED THE CLASS INTO THE HOCKEY HALL OF FAME. DAVID MIKKO WAS THERE AS — MCCOY WAS THERE AS THEY CELEBRATED. CITY WITH ONE OF THE RICH ERRORS HOCKEY HISTORIES IN THE UNITED STATES. HISTORY THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DOCUMENTED UNTIL NOW. DECIDED WE NEED A HALL OF FAME, BECAUSE NOBODY DID IT. IT’S A REAL HONOR. I’M THRILLED. YOU CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ON HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR THE KID PLAYING HOCKEY AND FAMILIES THAT ARE PUTTING THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO IT TO REALIZE THEY ARE DOING IT IN A COMMUNITY AND IN ASSOCIATION WHERE THERE IS HISTORY. FOUR STANLEY CUPS, 8 OR 9 NHL PLAYERS, WE’VE BEEN WORKING HARD TO BUILD THE YOUTH PROGRAM IN THE LAST DECADE. WHAT WE WANTED TO DO IS SHOW THEM THERE IS THIS THE RICH HISTORY, AND THEY CAN BE PART OF IT NOW.
