There is a lot of competition for places.
Pleasingly we have got a number of players coming back from injury or if they are currently
injured it is not going to affect participation in the summer camp so that is great news.
What it has meant is we have had long debates as a coaching group for a few weeks now culminating
in yesterday finalising that squad that has obviously meant that some very good players
have missed out on selection. So we want to be fair to the players that are still playing
in huge games whether that is in the final stages of the PRO 14 or in the English Premiership.
Now we wanted to put a squad out this week because Edinburgh finished the season but
two positions we are going to leave until the end of the season one is in the forwards
and one is in the back. Players that are currently playing have a real opportunity to get that
final place but there will be others in consideration that might not get the opportunity to play
over the next two or three weeks. Already we have picked a quality group so we know
these players qualities and we know how hard they work for each other how hard they are
going to work individually to be in great shape come the first week of September when
we have to announce that final squad. It will be how much they grab their opportunities
and how much they can deliver the game both individually and with their teammates that
we have to play to win games in Japan and they will get opportunities to show that in
training and certainly when we come into our tests in August and September.
