– Our effort, our
confidence, our discipline and our ability, let’s go win a ball game. – Play for yourself, play for each other, all right, that’s what we do, okay. Fam on three. One two three– – [Team] Fam. – [Announcer] He’s sacked again. The ball’s picked up. They got Edwards in the end zone. Big plays back to back, boom! Touchdown Carolina. Are you kidding me? The Gamecocks win it. – Been pulling out all the stops today, the Gamecocks put up 459 yards of total offense against Alabama. They can’t hold on, it’s
a strong passing game of the Crimson Tide and
Gamecocks fall 47-23. Coach, clearly the plan was
to go for this ball game, and go for the jugular
and try to get the win and your team played with a
lot of great heart and effort out there today, it’s
just a lot with Alabama. They’re a good football team. – Well, they are, and I mean, again, you know, offensively I
thought we moved the ball extremely well, you gotta score touchdowns in the red zone against
a team like Alabama and defensively we talked all week about the explosive
plays, they didn’t hurt us with anything vertically down the field, it was all the intermediate passes, and they’re very hard to
get on the ground in space, we then gotta leverage them
and get them on the ground. It’s very difficult,
they’ve got a very good receiving corps and the
quarterback’s extremely accurate and he’s got a great pocket presence and being able to step up and buy time. – Every time it felt like
we slowed down one side, they had another receiver or two on the other side who was just as able to make big plays a
big part of it as well. Coach, on our Prisma Health injury report, how are the football team
coming out of this game? – We’re good, you know,
unfortunately going into the game, Randrecous Davis is
still down with an ankle, I don’t think we’ll get him
back right before the open week and Brad Johnson’s got a groin, I don’t think we’ll get him
back before the open week, but we came out of the game clean. – It took some explanation Coach, tell us, you’re trying to get to seven before half and your team drove down there
to a goal line situation. Rico Dowdle goes in either
right at the goal line or in the goal line, tell
me what you were thinking after that and what happened
during that process? – Well, when the play’s blown dead it’s not reviewable
unless it has to do with a goal line situation and
I was told on the field, the replay official was not
stopping it to review it, so there was no reason to try and… All we’re gonna do is waste a timeout, we had two timeouts
left, we felt good about our next play call, we
went to the next play call, but I was told on the
field, “The replay official was not reviewing the play.” Generally that means he’s seen something to confirm that they’re not
gonna overturn the call. So there’s no reason to try and… This same situation with Jaycee
Horn last year at Florida. When the play gets blown
dead and the replay official on the field, and I’m
saying, “What do you think?” And they’re telling me
they’re not stopping the game. If they’re not stopping the game, then there’s no reason to
try and take a timeout. – Was your plan the whole time to go for seven goal line situations? – Yeah, going into the game,
in goal to goal situations, we wanted to get seven points in the game. You know, really, in
retrospect, looking back, probably should have
kicked the field goal there and gone down 24 to 13 at the half, knowing we had the ball
to start the second half. – Two talented teams at
Williams-Brice Stadium on a hot but gorgeous day for football. We’ll get highlights when we come back on Gamecock Football with Will Muschamp. – [Announcer] Gamecock

about a key to the game, you could have a laundry
list of those things but our Toyota Keys to the Game, tell us a few you were thinking about in this ball game, and how’d it go? – Well, defensively we wanted
to stop the running game. I think they only had 70 yards rushing and really never hurt
us running the football, but again, we talked in terms of explosive plays in the passing game. We weren’t able to do that offensively. I thought we played well, I thought our offensive line protected
the run extremely well. We threw it 57 times. I thought that we did a nice
job in the running game. I think Rico’s the first
back to go over 100 yards since 2008 or something against Alabama, so that says a lot about how we ran the football, moved the ball. We gotta score touchdowns in the red zone. I was really proud of our players’ effort, unfortunately we just came
up short in the second half and not getting the momentum
back from their offense. – Toyota, let’s go places. It was a game of big plays and we’re gonna go out to
Williams-Brice Stadium now. Coach, a huge crowd, very
much in our favor early on. – Unbelievable crowd and the
Gamecock wall was amazing. They make a difference for us, who we are. A speed sweep right there with Bryan on the first play of the game. Bryan ended up getting, I think
nine receptions on the game, but you see him there fighting for yardage and really proud of him and how he played. We go to an empty set here
on a critical third down. I think we come up a little bit short and we hit the little
option play right there. Rico does a nice job of
getting the first down. We come back again on a power
play of the left side there. Really powerful run by Rico, nice job. We do this little insert play right here to get a lead on their
linebacker or nose guard. Really nice design by offensive staff. Nick Muse in the flat right there, really a nice gainer, he made
in a couple of nice plays. Parker comes in and kicks
it right down the uprights. We get a score on our first
possession, which was huge. We come back here defensively
on a first and 10 situation. They try on the over route. Really nice job by Javon
Kinlaw, I believe, on the sack. We go to a third and 11
situation, really nice design by our defensive staff on
the pick play in the middle. Second and ten situation,
we get the slant there, we just over run it from
the front side safety to the backside safety
wasn’t able to stop the ball off the back side and
it’s an 81 yard slant. It’s just disappointing that… We come back here
offense, we keep fighting. Nick Muse makes a really
nice run for a first down right there, getting the
ball vertical up the field. We come back again offensively, do a nice job protecting Ryan. A lot of time to be able
to hit the vertical ball to Bryan down the middle of the field for I think about 27 yards there. We do a fake look back in this situation, slows them down a little bit and then Shi goes up and makes a big time play right there over both of their guys. Fantastic catch by Shi. – 31 yarder for Shi Smith,
first one on the year. We’re right back at it, this
is what, again, Alabama does. Even when you play them
close they seem to just put it right on the money and
Tua did that several times. – If Jaycee would have
made that interception that would have been a
huge play in the game. We hold them to a field goal. They come back on a
critical fourth down here, blocking down field, he’s caught the ball past the line of scrimmage,
which is illegal, but we’ve gotta make a tackle, gotta get the guy on
the ground right there, but that’s a critical
fourth down situation. It’s a 14 point game, so
we’re coming back here. You know, get the deflection
there on second and 20. We get a stop on third
down, we come right back down the field, get a
first down right there on a critical third down conversion. We did a nice job in the game, staying on the field on
third down on offense. Again, Ryan drops back
again, buys a little time. Nice job by OrTre Smith right
there for a big completion again on another critical
third down conversion. Comes down again, hits Rico in
the flat, makes the guy miss, continues to gain some
yards on the sideline. Another first down, we come back here, a little bootleg, nice job hitting Kyle Markway across the middle there. Unfortunately we don’t get any points coming out of there before the half. – Had two timeouts at that point, coach, did you think about kicking the field goal when you went for it on third, or– – No, on fourth down I thought about it, Bryan had a very short conversation, he felt good about the route combination and the look we were gonna get, and we had gone into the game knowing we needed to score
touchdowns in the red zone. – That’s halftime, but it’s uh, right off the bat you
chose to defer, coach, in the second half and get the football and Rico Dowdle starts it off for you. – Really nice run by Rico, powerful run. Running through contact, loved the way our offensive line got a hat on a hat. We did run the speed sweep again to Bryan, he gets the ball again,
vertical down the field. Really nice job by Bryan
gaining some yards there. Again, the down around
scheme here by Rico. Really good run right there. I’m really pleased with how
we’re moving the football. Here, Ryan stands in there in the pocket, heck of a throw to Shi off his back foot. Spins it down the middle
and then Parker right there kicks it through the uprights. Here, again we gotta make a tackle out of the middle of the field, do a better job of squeezing the slant. Very accurate with the football. They come back again. Another critical conversion right there. Tight throw to Bryan
catching the football. Nice job by Ryan. We go back down the field here, and again, that was a fumble. He did a nice job of
stripping him from the back. We gotta try to make a
stop in that situation. We had one open down the field. Really a nice job by our defense, making a stand right there
to hold them to a field goal. Again, we come back offensively, we’re running the football well,
especially the second half. We’re doing a nice job blocking up front. Again, the down around scheme again. Rico creases them again
for a big gainer here. Running the ball extremely
well against a team that’s hard to run the football against and again Parker goes right there and notches another
three points to make it, you know, right there going to 16. We keep fighting down the field. We’re gonna keep playing, trying to score. Really nice job by Shi, knifing
the defense right there. We go to a four by one
look and then back side, we felt good about it, two back
to back slants to Josh Vann. A critical third down conversion,
really nice route by Josh, setting him up on the
line of scrimmage there. We go back again to a three by
one look with all verticals. Really nice job buying
some time right there and Tavien Feaster’s a really
good receiver in space. Unfortunately we don’t
get the score there. Our defense comes out and
battling to get a stop right there John Dixon coming off the corner
on a pressure right there. Little divide zone play inside. Good by Israel and R.J.
right there wrapping him up. We get the ball back offensively and I appreciate our guys
continuing to fight right here. You know, we’re gonna try and strain and get another score
on the board right here. Ryan standing in the
pocket took some tough hits on this last drive but we
need as many reps as we can. Gets the ball out to Dakereon in space. Really nice job of getting
the ball vertical right there. And then really buying time right here. Nice touchdown pass to Kyle
Markway to end the game. – Markway, his third
touchdown of the season. Coach, it did show a lot of guts, particularly there in the fourth quarter. And you mentioned the fake punt, we didn’t have that on the highlights and the fake field goal, but
you went for some plays today, fake field goal called
back for a holding call that was very close on Markway who just scored that touchdown. The fake punt and went
for it on fourth and goal with a gain of three before the half. So you realized it’s
part of the game plan, I think I even heard
you tell the press boys you decided that back in the summer time. This is gonna take a lot
of scores and sometimes– – Well, just gotta steal some possessions. You gotta keep 13 off the field. You can say, “Well, why don’t
you go slow on offense?” Well I don’t think we’re as effective if we go slow on offense. We’re more effective playing fast, getting 86 snaps, tiring
their pass rushers and then you saw in the fourth quarter, they’re more fatigued to rush the passer. Stay on the field more and
play with a better tempo but steal possessions by special teams and fourth down conversions. – Parker White runs into the end zone, did you have a good
angle on the call at all on our tight end, Markway? – I probably shouldn’t comment. – Okay, good policy. Much more to come, of
course we’ll be here on Gamecock Football with Will
Muschamp, back in a moment. – [Announcer] When the Gamecocks go bowling this year, you will too. South Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance is sending one lucky winner to whichever bowl game our Gamecocks attend. One winner and guest will get airfare, hotel accommodations

Carolina in a big way, taking down Charleston Southern 72-10 behind freshman signal
caller, Ryan Hilinski. It’s Carolina versus Alabama. Now Edwards comes in motion,
speed sweep to number 89 going up the right side of the field. Bryan’s got one move, he’s out to the 20, still fighting and on his feet. First down for Carolina. Snap it back, put it down,
kick it up, plenty of distance. Gamecock fans in the South end
zone say it’s gotta be duller Tua goes down at the 21 yard line. Javon Kinlaw, hey that’s
what we needed, big Javan. Got a snap, looking down the middle, fell into the arms of a Gamecock defender. Hilinski snaps a quick
ball, Ryan got some time, throwing down the field into
coverage, Shi Smith there. He picked it up, caught,
touchdown Carolina. Touchdown Shi Smith. Are you kidding me? Between two defenders from 31 yards out. Parker’s got it. We got ourselves a four point game. Hilinski fakes inside, gonna throw. He’s got a post route,
that’s Shi Smith at the nine and they drag him down
at the nine yard line. Hilinski with a whip from the hip. Up… And good. 11:26 to go in the third quarter. It’s 24-13 Alabama. Rico, gonna go to the left side. Got 40, 45, a cut-back, another cut, at the 40, 30, and Alabama’s finally got him down at the 28 yard line. Four man front, Hilinski standing in the pocket shuffling his feet. Crossing route got him. Touchdown Carolina. Touchdown Kyle Markway. What a nice day for football. A gorgeous day at Williams-Brice
Stadium, Carolina… (crowd cheering) – Up next we’ll hear from

could make it 14-10 ‘Bama. – That’s our Sansbury Eye
Center Did You See That Play? Ryan Hilinski, 31 yards to Shi Smith and coach, not only did he catch it, he took it away from two defenders and split ’em right down
the middle, great catch. – Shi is a really good
player, really nice job of high pointing the ball
and catching it in his hands. He does things down the field. We’ve got to continue to get him the ball. – First one just for him this year. Now it’s time for our Terminix
Pest Player of the Week and staying on the offensive side, coach, with your running back Rico
Dowdle ran hard all day long. – Ran through contact. I thought our offensive
staff had a really good plan of running the football. They’ve been a very difficult
front to run the ball against and I thought we had a really
good plan going into the game. The little draw play was effective for us. The down and around scheme
was effective for us. Rico ran the ball hard,
but our offensive line did a nice job as well
getting a hat on a hat. – Open up some holes
and it was very obvious in the second half and that’s a rarity against the Alabama defense. It’s only happened a
couple of times since 2005 that they’ve had a rusher, a single rusher go over a hundred yards and
Feaster was there as well with another productive
day so the Gamecocks fall, but some good things happening
and some great approaches. Congratulations guys. Now it’s time to hear from My Carolina. – Hi, I’m Gamecock legend

as we travel out to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Tigers. I don’t know much about them, I haven’t seen them so much so far. They got a big win today in a lower level conference opponent but took a loss where they got upset early on. What do you know about the Tigers and the challenges we’ll have? – Kelly Bryant obviously is a
guy we’re very familiar with. He’s their starting quarterback and I’ve got a lot of respect for KB. They’ve got a good set of running backs. They’ve done a nice job. They got a graduate transfer from Arkansas at the wide receiver position. A big up front offense. Defensively, Barry’s
always been a four down guy and they got Cale Garrett,
the inside linebacker’s a really good player. So we’ll have our work cut out for us, we need to get back to work tomorrow. – Coach, one and two on the season, but it felt like today
you found a lot of things you could hang your hat on. – Well, you know we’re
not where we want to be and certainly not where we
expected to be at this time but at the end of the day we have outstanding leadership
on this football team. The culture of this team is outstanding. I can’t wait to get back
to work tomorrow with them. – Well, Ryan Hilinski too, pretty poised against the number two team
in the country as well. The Gamecocks made great effort and played very, very
hard but fall to Alabama. Don’t forget, it’ll be next week, Missouri, an Eastern division team. You be right here on Gamecock
