We spend a lot of time and energy taking
care of our bodies and you know trying not to get injured, preventing injuries,
so last year when I hurt my shoulder it was just so devastating. I’ve had like
nagging injury pain for a few years but I think that’s just a lot of players go
through that but this injury I just knew right away it was something different
like I had to walk like holding my arm like I couldn’t put my arm down I was
hurting so bad. So got an MRI and found out that I had torn my rotator cuff and
you know two doctors had suggested that I get it repaired right away and would
be out six to nine months but I knew that wasn’t really an option. We were in
the middle of Olympic qualifying we had two more really big tournaments left,
that year, that we really needed to play in and get a good finish. So, I saw
another doctor who suggested to play in those two tournaments and then have a
little surgery done after the last tournament, just to go in and clean it up.
So I rehab the crap out of my shoulder and spent so much time trying to gain
some strength and get my motion back and we were able to go down to Trinidad and
Tobago and we took second and got some more olympic points. After that
tournament I just kind of shut it down. No volleybal,l just straight rehab and
you know trying to get strength back in my shoulder, I’d lost a lot of strength
from the injury, so it took a lot of time and I don’t suggest trying to rush back
from an injury. I was just put in a position where, you know, if we’re trying,
if we’re really going to qualify, you know, that tournament in Trinidad
Tobago, 10 weeks after surgery, was a must for us! So you really have to take care
of your body and things like this happen, like I don’t know like if I did
something different maybe it wouldn’t have happened, I have no idea. I know
every day i’m trying to do the best I can to take care of my body so that this
doesn’t happen again. I want to be in the best possible shape
going into the Olympics and I want my shoulder you know being as good as it
will be so it takes a lot of time and effort taking care of your body but
totally worth it!
